4-H Media Best Practices

4-H Ad: A 4-H ad that was included in the county's Sunday paper (The Columbia News-Times). The ad was a companion piece with the Columbia County Humane Society. Shared by Shirley B. Williamson, Georgia 4-H Extension Agent, Columbia County.

Charlotte's Web Promotion Best Practices

St. Johns County, Fla.: Laurie Simmer of St. Johns County in Fla. has partnered with the local Regal Cinema to highlight 4-H opportunities during the opening weekend of the movie by: purchasing discounted seats for opening night for 4-H family and friends to purchase; having 4-H youth perform at the start of the movie, providing attendees with both 4-H and Charlotte's Web promotional items; and ensuring that 4-H is highlighted throughout the theater using posters, stand-alone displays and through interactive activities provided by the 4-H Clubs.

Washington County, Maine: 4-H agent Colleen Brown took buttons that say "Ask me how to become a 4-H volunteer" with 4-H information to the theaters in her county and asked that the theater staff wear the buttons during the duration of Charlotte's Web. If anyone asks, they were given her business card to hand out for the interested volunteer to contact her.

Dodge County, Neb.: Nearly 150 people joined 4-H to watch Charlotte's Web at a theater in Fremont, Neb. Movie-goers met 4-H members, volunteers and staff from across Dodge, Cuming and Washington counties, learned how to become involved in a the program, met the NEW 4-H Mascot “Lil’ Green” and took part in FREE drawings of 4-H items (including the t-shirt that Dakota Fanning wears in the movie) between the matinee shows. Directly located outside of the movie theater, in the mall, was a promotional display about 4-H which will be kept in place until the final showing of the movie.

Warren County, N.J.: 4-H Agent Alayne Torretta has arranged a private screening for December 16 before the theatre opens to the public. They will provide the public with give-aways as well as 4-H brochures.

Thompkins County, N.Y.: Local 4-H groups are inviting the community to join them for a fun filled day with live farm animals, carnival games, face painting, kids crafts, a coloring contest, and animal costume contest on Saturday, Dec. 16 at the Ithaca mall next to the theater.

Vinton County, Ohio: 4-H Extension Agent Peggy Blackford promoted the 4-H fundraiser for Charlotte's Web by: hanging the movie flyers in all six of the town's elementary schools as well as sending the newsletter article home with each student, sending the news article to the local newspapers, and placing an ad on the local radio stations.

Marshall County, S.D.: Paula Jensen shared that the Dakota Kids 4-H Club in Marshall County, S.D. will be helping to break a world record by joining Reading Is Fundamental and reading a passage from the Charlotte's Web book aloud at 11:00 a.m. on December 13. This will be the kick off for the 4-H promotion and movie promotion. They are sponsoring a coloring contest with the elementary students and giving away movie tickets for Charlotte's Web for their theatre. They are also hanging flyers provided by the 4-H Brand Network.

Jefferson County, Wash.: Pam Roberts, Jefferson County 4-H Extension Agent, shared that the 4-H Network News club completed a five-minute promotional video about the connections between 4-H and the movie Charlotte's WebClick here to watch the movie which shows a group of 4-H youth attending a screening of the film and expressing their opinions about the movie.
